Index/Dos'e na Tsenzuru. Issue # 26

The issue # 26 is titled Senor Presidente that is the title of the famous novel by Miguel Angel Asturias. The theme of the issue is Russia of Putin, Russia of the simple people who has nothing in common with the superior authorities and the camarilla. We try to take a sober view on the things and to analyze the real problems existing in the country. The best authors of our magazine were invited to take part in this very important for us issue.

The main block of materials is dedicated to the historical, philosophical, politological analysis of the basic trends of the social life in modern Russia. Here we publish the essays of the economist Aleksandr Auzan, writer Oleg Pavlov, German correspondent Boris Reitschuster, member of International PEN-club Andrei Pionkovsky, the president of Glasnost Defence Foundation Aleksei Simonov, philologist Natalia Trauberg, co-ordinator of the movement Smena Mikhail Velmakin. All of them expose their thoughts on the shifts of the Russian history and share their sensations of the atmosphere in the country. This block is closed by the part of the Report on the Human Rights in Russia in 2006 by Svetlana Gannushkina.

The next block of the magazine is dedicated to the problems of the freedom of expression, of the policy of the main media and the effects of their manipulations. The mechanisms of these manipulations are revealed in materials by Samuil Lurie, Oleg Panfilov, Dmitrii Bykov, Vladimir Pribylovsky, Naum Nim.

The article of the federal judge Serguei Pashin makes clear the processes in Russian justice that is going back to the Soviet epoque.

The big material by Andrei Soldatov and Irina Borogan is dedicated to the changes in Russian secret services and their fusing with the business and governmental bodies.

2007 is the 70th anniversary of the Big Terror in USSR, that's why we publish The Theses of Human Right Centre "Memorial" and the chronicle of main events of the period.
